HOO is a Manipuri film which is trying to tell the issues of our society. Perhaps, a different theme from the present trends of film released in the State.
Out of average 60 odd Manipuri films released every year, hardly 5-6 films are made on social issues. Hoo is one such films which need to be promoted if we want to keep Manipuri film at global platform.
We must give credit to director Bankim Maibam, who conceptualize the theme as screenplay writer, editor, producer as well. The camera angle by Irom Ibomcha is worth to mention.
Thoiba, a shooting National player and an SI in Manipur police joins the Narcotic Department to curb drug trafficking in the state which is spoiling the youths, specially his own brother who is a victim of drug abuse.
As the story unfolds, Thoiba discover every one in the system is involved in this business. On one mission he is hurt and rescued by Thoibi, a widow who works as commercial sex worker.
Thoiba struggles to help her lead a good life, adding another burden besides combating against drug mafias.
The role of Thoibi is superbly played by Rojy as a young widow in the movie.
Universe comeback as Thoiba is good for Manipuri film after a long gap, The character of Thoiba is mature and very challenging and the young actor tries hard to fit in the character.
Veteran actor Shaymkeshor, who is playing the father of Thoiba did a wonderful job. The scenes where mob tries to punish the family of Thoiba is beautifully capture by the lens. This is the magic moment of the film.
We must watch this film which is free from copy-cat Bollywood dance and romance. Producer Loveboy must be given a thumbs up for producing such subject which is a bit risky in the present trends of Manipuri films.
